More than four years ago, a few women from our church began dreaming about how we might use the empty warehouse space on our campus to serve our community. From those conversations came a simple idea and a fitting name: The Good Place. What started as a small ministry has grown in ways none of us could have fully imagined.
Over the past four years, The Good Place has become an incredible blessing to our church and our community. Through the generosity of donations, volunteers, and shoppers, this ministry has provided significant support to our Crooked House Ministry, helping families with utility bills and other urgent needs. It has also partnered with the American Legion to provide veterans with free PTSD counseling. Through these efforts, more than $46,000 has been given to each of these ministries, along with support for other community needs as they arise.
At the same time, The Good Place has played a vital role in supporting the future of Royse City Methodist Church. Most of its proceeds go directly to our church rebuild fund. In just four years, The Good Place has contributed more than $250,000 toward our new campus.
Those numbers tell only part of the story. They do not include the back-to-school vouchers provided for families served by Our Daily Bread, Christmas vouchers shared with neighbors through Our Daily Bread and Red Nose Bulldog, ongoing support for local ministries throughout the year, or improvements to the Family Life Center that benefit both our congregation and the wider community. Simply put, God is doing a lot of good through The Good Place.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the many good people who serve there. Volunteers from Royse City Methodist Church, The Quest Church, and other congregations throughout our community faithfully give their time and energy each week. Many simply wanted a way to make a difference, and they have become part of something truly special. Whenever I visit The Good Place, I am reminded that ministry is about relationships. Our volunteers warmly welcome people from all over the area, and their servant hearts reflect the love of Christ in meaningful ways.
I would especially like to recognize JoNell Mellody, who has faithfully served as The Good Place Coordinator since its beginning. After four years of remarkable leadership, JoNell has decided to step down from this role at the end of October.
JoNell's love for Jesus, her passion for our church, and her commitment to serving our community have helped shape The Good Place into the thriving ministry it is today. Knowing JoNell, she would be quick to point to the amazing team around her and give them the credit. While that team is certainly essential, I am deeply grateful for her vision, dedication, and leadership. Through her efforts, countless lives have been touched, and our church is stronger because of her faithful service.
At the same time, I am excited to share that Cindy Daniel will be stepping into the role of Good Place Coordinator. Cindy has faithfully served as our Local Missions Chair and Good Place Manager for the past eighteen months. Her experience, leadership, and heart for ministry will provide a smooth transition and continued momentum for this important outreach. I am confident that God will continue to do great things through Cindy and the wonderful team that serves alongside her.
If you would like to be part of this ministry, there are many opportunities to help. Volunteers assist with sorting donations, moving merchandise, greeting shoppers, and working the cash register.

As we continue to serve together, may God use The Good Place to renew lives, strengthen our community, and keep us rooted in Christ.
Be God’s,
Pastor Chris
